Theatre is a cultural pillar of the city of New Haven, and our stages are coming alive this month. October marks the beginning of our city’s performance season, with top talent taking to the stages of the Yale Repertory Theatre, the Shubert, and Long Wharf Theater, among others. What’s playing at the Yale Rep? Originals and debuts galore.
Falcon Girls, October 10 – November 2: The Yale Rep is honored to host the world premiere of this new show by Hilary Bettis. Based on a true story, Falcon Girls takes place in Falcon, Colorado circa 1990 and follows six teen girls on the FFA horse judging team, fighting to make it to nationals. It’s funny, it’s nostalgic, and it’s playing right here in New Haven.
Macbeth in Stride, December 5-14: This reimagined performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth follows “an ambitious Black woman, told through her own contemporary perspective of femininity, desire, and power with a capital P.”

Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, October 24-27: TINA: The Tina Turner Musical is the triumphant story of the Queen of Rock n’ Roll’s journey against all odds to become one of the most beloved artists of all time, set to the pulse-pounding soundtrack of her most popular hits.
Dear Evan Hansen, November 22-24: Declared “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history” by The Washington Post, Dear Evan Hansen is the first contemporary musical about connection in the digital age.
A Christmas Carol, December 7 -8: This classic Charles Dickens tale shares the journey of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge while he discovers the true meaning of Christmas through warmth, goodwill, and musical memories of the holiday season.
What’s playing at Long Wharf? The theatre’s 60th anniversary season is sparkling.
Artistic Congress, October 25-27: This conference-style event is set to feature artists, scholars, and community members discussing the power of creativity and the arts.
Black Trans Women at the Center, November 18: The fifth annual installation of this virtual event showcases a number of Black trans artists, putting their raw talent and creativity at the center.
She Loves Me, November 30 – December 15: This work is set in 1934 Budapest, complete with the romance, longing, and change of the city.
