On Wednesday, May 22, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (and Wooster Street alum), entered into the Congressional Record that New Haven “is the best pizza in the country; it’s not even close” – read more about the day here. 

Our city’s apizza culture has been covered widely across such publications as Cosmopolitan, Food&Wine, and The New Yorker. On the heels of the congressional event in Washington D.C., New Haven’s new designation as the country’s Pizza Capital is all over the news. 

The New York Times asked “Is New Haven the Pizza Capital of the U.S.?,” and highlighted the playful debate sparked between New Haven locals and New York City residents. Check out the story here.

New York Post took the new title to task, noting the tremendous attention surrounding our distinct style of pizza, through a New York City lens. Read on here

Newsweek pushed back on New Yorkers calling the event a “cheesy stunt,” declaring “There’s a New ‘Pizza Capital’ of America, and It Isn’t Where You Think.” See the story here

If our intuition is correct, there is plenty more coming, especially from those angry New Yorkers. As for us, we’re well fed and wearing our new title with pride.
